Archimedes was a renowned ancient Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer. Born in Syracuse, Sicily, around 287 BC, he's often considered one of the greatest mathematicians of all time.
Archimedes made substantial contributions to the fields of mathematics and science, including the principle of the lever, the principle of buoyancy (known as Archimedes' Principle), and techniques for calculating the volume of irregular objects. He also devised innovative machines, including siege engines and the screw pump, known as Archimedes' Screw.
His work had a profound impact on the development of physics and mathematics, and his ideas are still studied and applied today. Archimedes was killed during the Roman siege of Syracuse in 212 BC.
